Classes

Susi has well over one thousand hours of formal education in general massage therapy. From 2009 to 2013 Susi studied at the Acupressure Institute, where she picked up a variety of skills in shiatsu and acupressure, and eventually gravitated towards Chinese Tui Na massage and women’s health. Having taken a deep dive into traditional Asian healing practices, in 2014 Susi switched over and began studying classical Western massage systems, including both Swedish and deep-tissue massage. From 2016 to the present Susi has trained in specialized massage and manual therapy for orthopedic conditions at the Hendrickson School. She has an expert level of anatomical understanding and has provided her massage therapy services at acupuncture and chiropractic clinics throughout the Bay Area and beyond.

In May 2010 while training at the Acupressure Institute, Susi saw a flyer and became interested in becoming a birth doula. She would go on to get certified, and attended her first birth that following November; she has fulfilled the birth doula role over one hundred times since. Her current birth care offerings include birth and postpartum doula services, midwifery assistance, placenta encapsulation, childbirth education, infant massage education, belly binding, and bone closing. She’s also a birth photographer as well! Susi’s most specialized training which focused exclusively on prenatal massage was in 2013 with Carol Osborne, at Bastyr University’s prestigious Penny Simkin Center in Seattle, Washington. Susi learned specific methods for all phases of pregnancy and postpartum, working with neuromuscular techniques, lymphatic drainage, and connective tissue massage.

Besides massage therapy and birth work, Susi is passionate about photography, and especially enjoys documenting her travels around the world. She comes from a large Peruvian family and enjoys spending the holidays with them up in Seattle. To relax she alternates between her love of hatha yoga and binge-watching cooking shows. Susan brings so much to the table every time she engages with a mama to give prenatal massage care. She combines solid skills with a warm and caring personal manner. She is extremely helpful with tips and resources as well. After getting your first prenatal massage with Susi, you will feel comforted by her technique as well as her insights. Susi is fluent in Spanish.
